Yogyakarta, April 3, 2024 – Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta, through its Architecture Study Program, has established a collaboration with the Muhammadiyah Waqf Empowerment Council (MPW) of DIY Province to design a masterplan for a Tahfidz House located on Jalan Kalimantan. This initiative is part of the lecturers’ community service activities as an implementation of the university’s tridharma.

In this context, the waqf land on Jalan Kalimantan is planned to be developed into a Tahfidz House that will not only serve as a center for memorizing the Qur’an but also as a hub for youth development and religious activities. The involvement of UNISA’s architecture lecturers is crucial in ensuring professional planning that encompasses functional spatial design, comfort, environmental sustainability, and Islamic values as the guiding principles.

This collaboration brings dual benefits. For the academic community, it provides an opportunity to apply architectural knowledge within a socio-religious framework. For Muhammadiyah’s MPW, the availability of a comprehensive masterplan serves as a clear guideline for implementation, ensuring that the waqf land can be managed optimally and sustainably.

Waqf holds a significant role in Islam as a means of creating long-term benefits. Allah SWT states:
“Never will you attain righteousness until you spend [in the way of Allah] from that which you love…” (Qur’an, Ali Imran: 92).

The planned Tahfidz House is expected to create a conducive learning environment that supports the spiritual and social development of its students. Furthermore, its existence will provide broader benefits to the surrounding community through religious activities, education, and community empowerment.

It is hoped that the optimization of this waqf land will generate great and lasting benefits, in line with the saying of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him):
“When a person dies, all his deeds come to an end except three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, and a righteous child who prays for him.” (Hadith narrated by Muslim). Through this synergy, UNISA Yogyakarta and Muhammadiyah’s MPW are committed to optimizing the utilization of waqf land to deliver sustainable benefits, in accordance with Islamic teachings that call for spreading goodness to society.
